Letters rather prudishly refuses to discuss Là;-bas with the words: ’No analysis or even discussion of "Là-bas" is necessary here, for though it represents a set of experiences not dealt with in "A Rebours" the main figure is a Des Esseintes in point of view and essential depravity, while as pure literature "A Rebours" is a far more original work.’
