A readable but fairly lightweight study by the Irish scholar Donal Brennan. The book is divided into two sections, the first dealing with the evolution of mystical and religious beliefs in Huysmans' work, and the second with how Huysmans' post-conversion work was received by the critics. The study is perhaps most interesting for the lengthy chapter on critical reactions to Huysmans in England. Originally presented as a thesis for Brennan's doctorat at Montpellier university, the book is now very difficult to find.
