A monograph written by the chaplain of an English church in Paris which formed part of Bowes and Bowes’ Studies in Modern European Literature and Thought series. Brandreth’s assessment of Huysmans is, as Brian Bank’s pointed out, conditioned by his Anglicanism, but the book draws on various French sources and includes original translations from Huysmans’ work.
